In-house Laboratory Services
Our in-house laboratory allows us to offer many tests on-site for rapid results when we need them most. On-site testing includes urinalysis, complete blood count, blood chemistry, thyroid hormone (T4, thyroxine), rapid drug testing (for suspected accidental ingestion), ear/skin cytology, basic fecal testing, FIV/FeLV testing and testing for pancreatitis markers.
Reference Laboratory
Special tests like histopathology (tissue analysis), cultures, Cushing’s testing/monitoring and vaccine titres go to a reference laboratory on the mainland.
Community announcement: we have had several domestic indoor/outdoor and feral cats test positive for FIV in the last 18 months. For this reason, we strongly recommend all indoor/outdoor cats have a simple, annual blood test to check for FIV & Feline Leukemia. It’s best to test for FIV & Feline Leukemia annually and before introducing a new kitten to your feline family. It’s a simple test with rapid results.
Most recent positive FIV tests:
September 11th, 2024 WHISKEY CREEK
June 13th, 2024 HILLIERS NORTH AREA
